Prague is famous for its architecture, well-maintained historical buildings and amazing public transport links, making it one of the top 10 destinations in Europe for almost a decade.
But what not a lot of people know, it's a vast amount of parks that are the perfect option to walk and get views of Prague while enjoying the green trees and colorful flowers.
Petřín Hill is an oasis of peace right in the centre of Prague, displaying one of the largest urban green areas in town.
Easy to find and to access, the hill has a winding pathway that leads to the Rose Garden right on the top, where you can also find the Mirror Maze, the Cathedral of Saint Lawrance, St Michael Church and a replica of the Eiffel Tower, built in 1891, where its 299 steps to the top amaze visitors with extensive lookout to Prague.
Or if you want to look up the stars, the Štefánik Observatory has stood in Petřín since 1928 offering a permanent exhibition about astronomy.
There is a little tram taking tourists to the top, and the ticket is the normal public transport tickets.
FACTS – the Hill raises 130 m above the river (327 m from sea level) and the Lookout Tower raises to another 63 m.
DARK FACTS – There used to be gallows near St Lawrence Church where convicts and political enemies were executed. After the construction of the Hunger Wall, by Charles IV in 1360, the executions were cancelled in the place and extensive vineyards were founded on the hill.
The park started to get its actual form during the Renaissance period under the reign of Emperor Rudolph. It became a popular spot for walk and trips among the noble people, therefore trees and decorative bush were gradually added to the park to make the walks more pleasant.
